    Description

This is an original 1940's U.S. government-issued medal. These seem to be quite scarce, although not quite as desirable as the "original" numbered ones issued directly after the campaigns by the sailors commands. It's my understanding these were issued after the conflicts to those who made a case for the medal through their service records, or as an official replacement for those that were lost or damaged. The slot brooch is the 1944 Robbins Co. pattern. The planchet is die struck, and shows extra fine detail. Holding this up to a 1920's issued piece, I could find no discernable differences, leading me to believe they were struck using the original dies.  This is not a reproduction or "Studley" medal.
