RARE DOG ART CIGARETTE / TOBACCO / TRADE CARD, COLLECTIBLE, UK. Original 1937 UK Issued W.D & H.O. Wills Dogs Series with Breeds rendered in paintings by Arthur Wardle. Each card is Very Good or better condition, with minor edge wear, possible minor soil due to age and handling, and possibly a minor crease, but overall good condition. Size of the card is 2.7" long by 1.4" tall, image size is 2.5" wide by 1.2" tall. Printed on the reverse side with details of the breed, the series number and breed name. Five only!!
Arthur Wardle (1864 - 1949) was not only the most famous canine illustrator of his time, but also illustrated the most famous breed books and encyclopedias of the day. The volume of Wardle’s paintings reproduced on collectible cigarette cards alone, totaled approximately 250. Most notable, among these were the Players Cigarette 50 full body studies in landscapes from 1929, the series of 25 head studies (two portraits per card) in the 1930's, and the 1940's set of 50 head studies later re-printed in 1993. At least 80 additional paintings and watercolors were reproduced on postcards, and Spratts produced 36 of his images on cards.
These are not only great breed collectibles and memorabilia or ephemera, they make great gifts, dog show trophies, presents, and look incredible framed on a desk, mantle or wall!!

Condition Grading (Worldwide!) is typically as follows:
Mint: Almost as good as new; entirely un-blemished.
Excellent: As good as could be expected: cards clean with a minimum of damage, sharp corners and edges.
V. Good: Slight damage only. Corners not creased but may have slightly rounded corners, some light soiling possible especially to end cards.
Good: Some damage or soiling, includes corner damage, damage from adhesive backs, grubby backs.
Fair: Card may be damaged by creases, folds, crack or dirty mark.
Poor: Card with a number of the above faults.
