A rare blue and white ewer of roundel shape with original round cover with a pointed finial cover depicting mandarin ducks in a lotus pond between two double lines band, the rising above with a 6 lotus petal band with cloud motif, lotus leaf motif on the neck, and a plantain leaves just below the undecorated mouth rim.
The ewer has the characteristics of Yuan dynasty painting form and make with much influence takes after Middle East in the 14th century metal vessels.
The thick glaze with good shine covers the whole vessel except the interior and the round foot. The paste on the flat foot has embedded sand granules that are burnt orange while the cover’s paste shows a finer body without sand granules. Little bosses or bumps can be seen all over the vessel.
The spout is curved S shape with painted of a burning pearl a symbol of prosperity, and the handle with a band of stylized scroll painted along the center. On top of the handle is a small loop which suggests a string to be tied to a complementing loop on the cover.
Provenance: This piece is alleged from a collector over 40 years but stopped collecting 20 years ago. Many similar pieces were found from ground discoveries in Southeast Asia.
