    Description

    MARGUERITE KIRMSE, born in the UK, emigrated to the USA.
    One of the best known dog art illustrators in history, best known for her etchings and drawings, see my other auctions!
    A beautifully executed Chow Chow Head Study. Kirmse was particularly well known for the character that came forth from her works and illustrations. She also bred show Scottish Terriers, and was acutely aware of correct conformation to Breed Standards in her execution of her art.
    This Etching is rarely found, signed in pencil "Marguerite Kirmse" in her distinctive handwriting, rare enough that I cannot find the date it was produced, the majority of her work done in the 1920s and 1930s, only rarely after WWII, 1945.
    Impression is 3 3/4" wide by 4 7/8" tall. Outside dimensions of frame are: 11 5/8" x 13.5" in this beautiful frame, included.

    This Etching has not been removed from original frame to see if it is torn, it appears to have some damage near the title as shown, and minor water damage to the mat at the lower left corner away from the etching, Minor dings to the frame which give character.
