WWII US ID'd 83rd Troop Carrier Squadron 437th TCG Grouping w/ Engraved Air Medal - C-47 Co-pilot On D-Day Market Garden Bastogne & Varsity - All of the items in this grouping belonged to 1st Lt. Jacob "Jack" W. Buch Jr. - Serial #0-683398.Thank you to the individual who posted this information on Facebook -
"1st Lt. Jacob "Jack" W. Buch Jr. was a C-47 pilot in the 83rd TCS, 437th TCG based at Ramsbury Airfield. He flew combat missions during Neptune (D-Day), Market Garden (Holland) Repulse (Bastogne resupply) and Varsity (Rhine crossing). On the 6th of June 1944, flying in position 17 of Mission Detroit, he co-piloted C-47 42-100576 with 1st Lt Louis Emerson Jr towing a CG-4A glider to LZ 'O'. During Operation Varsity he piloted C-47 43-15494 with 2nd Lt Robert Van Buren towing two CG-4A gliders."

The engraved air medal & case has the usual handling wear.
The wood framed photograph measures Roughly 9 1/4" x 11 3/8". The frame has scuffs, scratches, loose nails, etc... Also, the cardboard stand has broken off of the back & is no longer present.
The metal framed photograph measures Roughly 8 1/4" x 10". The frame has age toning, dings, the photograph itself is wavy, etc... Also, the cardboard stand has broken off of the back & is no longer present.
The winter crusher visor cap is made by Society Brand Headwear. The crusher has moth nips throughout, the leather visor has a worn edge, the plastic liner has cracks, the gilding is worn, etc... The leather visor & strap is still soft & supple. No size tag remains.
The tag on the B-13 officer's flight jacket reads Size 38 & is made by Woolcraft MFG. Co. The B-13 jacket has moth nips throughout, the worst of which are on the bottom of the right sleeve where the rust spots can be seen. All of the buttons are present.
The tag on the 4 pocket tunic reads Hart Schaffner & Marx New York Chicago. The tunic has a 9th Air Force patch on the shoulder & one air corps pin on the collar. The tunic has some pulls, splatter stains, soiling around the collar, etc... All of the buttons are present.
The tag on the pink trousers also reads Hart Schaffner & Marx New York Chicago. The trousers have Lt. J.W. Buch written on the inside in two places. There are some small light splatter stains on the back of the trousers, the crotch has wear, etc... All of the buttons are present.
The tag on the 4 pocket summer tunic reads Sol Frank Military Supply Co. San Antonio - Texas. J.W. Buch is printed on an inside pocket tag. The tunic has one moth nip on the back of the arm, there are multiple spots, stains, soiling around the collar, etc... The Lt. bars are marked sterling. The pilot wings are clutch back & not marked. All of the buttons are present.
The tag on the summer trousers reads Regulation Army Officer Trousers & Tropical Worsted Khaki W Size 31R. The trousers have a moth holes & splatter stains throughout, etc... All of the buttons are present.
The tags on the two dark brown dress shirts read Jacob Reed's Sons Military Department. Both of the dress shirts have moth nips, both have spots, one has two damaged buttons, etc... Other than the two damaged buttons, all of the buttons are present.
The tag on the summer dress shirt reads Regulation Army Officers Shirt 15 32. The dress shirt has pulls, splatter stains, a missing button, one damaged button, etc...
